Hassle-free supply of key components
Spray nozzle specialists The Spray
People Group (SNP) has made
moves to bolster its support for the
UK’s food processing industry.
With increased pressure on prices
and the ongoing uncertainty over
supply due to Brexit, SNP are
reconfirming their commitment to
supporting UK food producers with
advanced spray technology.
Ivan Zytynski, marketing director
of SNP, said: “In these uncertain times
the last thing our customers need is
to have to worry about whether a
key component is in stock.”
Sometimes a two week lead-time
is unacceptably long so SNP have
improved UK stock levels. This
means that high quality stainless
steel air atomising and tank cleaning
heads are available for next day
delivery to UK sites.
Spray nozzle selection can be
complex so a redevelopment of the
Food Industry section of SNP’s
website has been completed which
provides users with a wealth of
information on correct nozzle
selection for optimal spray set-up.
New products have also been
added to SNP’s tank cleaning range
including 360º clog resistant tank
cleaner the HydroClaw.

Safety labels for HVAC chemicals
Drainage engineers from Lanes
Group plc have carried out cleaning
and surveying of surface drains
serving a new armoured fighting
vehicle test facility in South Wales.
They were called in to ensure the
drainage system at the facility was in
optimum condition with no
blockages before it was handed over
following its installation.
The test track has been built at the
General Dynamics armoured
fighting vehicle assembly,
integration, and testing facility at
Merthyr Tydfil in Mid Glamorgan.
Built by Griffiths Civil
Engineering and Construction, the
test track allows the military vehicles
to be fully tested before they are
handed over to the Army.
Griffiths site agent Chris Williams
said: “The surface water drainage
system makes sure the track delivers
the same highly-accurate
performance test results all-yearround.
“As such, it was important for us
to commission Lanes to carry out
the drainage survey and cleansing of
all underground pipework. Its
drainage survey reports provided the
evidence we needed to show the
client the drainage system across the
test site was fit for purpose.”
A jet vac tanker and a CCTV
drainage survey team from the Lanes
Cardiff depot were deployed to carry
out the work.
The drainage system included
standard surface water pipes and a
network of filter pipes, which collect
water from surrounding ground.

Scrapes and wipes forklift wheels
The way you use, transport, store
and dispose of your chemicals
should always be based on the safety
classification, not the marketing
slogan. The standard pictogram
system should make this easier.
Advanced Engineering seeks out
ways to make its chemical products
safer for engineers to use, without
reducing their effective power. For
example, another hazard label
change you might not have noticed
is on our HydroFoam coil cleaner
and brightener. An industry staple,
its harsh chemical formula could be
relied upon to shift stubborn, bakedon
dirt. But that also meant it was
hazardous to transport and use.
New formulation HydroFoam 2.0
does the same job just as well. But it’s
now non-toxic and safe to transport
– plus it’s biodegradable and protects
aluminium and copper.

If you have forklift trucks moving in
and out of your warehouse or facility
frequently throughout the day, the
wheels are likely to be bringing in
dirt and water from outside,
especially in wet weather.
This can lead to slips and falls, an

forklifts skidding. Waterhog Forklift

Waterhog Forklift Mats have a
crush proof, bi-level construction
which withstands the weight of a
loaded forklift and holds the dirt in
the mat, where it can easily be

Waterhog Modular Forklift Mats,
the latest edition, are a modular

tape, and with a downtime of less
than an hour.

Every hazardous chemical product
you use has a safety data sheet (SDS),
which sets out any precautions you
should take to use, store and
transport it safely. Recently, this
information changed, explains
Advanced Engineering technical
director Colin Pratt. Since the end of
last June, the majority of countries
now use the same set of pictograms
and classifications for every
chemical: the United Nations’ Global
Harmonised System (GHS).
The new global system should
make it easier to use chemicals safely
– regardless of location and
language. And the classification is
based on established hazard data
from the scientific community,
rather than potential risks.
But it’s down to the individual to
decide what precautions are most
appropriate for you to take. And
those statements are based on the way
the product will likely be used. If a
chemical requires a safety
classification, it should be visible on
the product label for you to see – but
you need to look for it. Many
manufacturers market products as
“Environmentally friendly” or “Safe
to use”, while the pictograms on the
back tell a different story: “Corrosive,
“Toxic” or “Dangerous to aquatic
