Founded in 1925, Robert Scott is now a
fourth-generation family business with
a prestigious reputation for designing,
manufacturing and distributing a wide
range of reliable, quality and affordable
cleaning products and equipment.
Robert Scott is probably best known for making
mops – half a million of them every week, to be
exact, to create a staggering 26 million a year.
That’s more mops than any other manufacturer
in the UK.
The company is also one of the largest
designers, manufacturers and stockists of
cleaning products, supplying around 60% of the
UK’s janitorial market with more than 2,000
cleaning products – worth over £50m in 2018.
Its head office is located on the site of its first
mill in Greenfield, Oldham – which is still used
to make its cotton mops – with five other sites
across the north west of England. Robert Scott
has invested over £5m in new warehousing, R&D,
manufacturing and technology, including a
450,000 sq.ft. warehouse facility for stock.
The business employs over 230 staff and prides
itself on employee retention – keeping expertise
in-house with generations of both staff and the
Scott family having worked for the business.
A proud UK-manufacturer, Robert Scott
focuses on innovation and challenges its team
to introduce more new products to market in
the spirit of the business’ history of firsts – such
as being one of the first companies in the UK to
introduce microfibre cloths. Other product
innovations include the Duop Reach, Hi-absorb
cloth, Flexis Ferrzon+ floor pads, Cleano range,
and the Mi-Cloth.
Looking to the future, the business has set its
sights on sustainability, becoming the UK’s only
distributor of the Toucan Eco bio-cleaning
system. This chemical-free cleaning system uses
only table salt, water and a low voltage electrical
current. This new system reduces chemical use
and single-use plastic waste – from the
containers they are supplied in – by up to 80
per cent. It’s 100% non-toxic, non-hazardous
and non-allergenic to humans and animals,
while also killing 99.999% of bacteria.
The business has also developed a range of
mop heads and cotton cloths created entirely
from recycled materials. As well as using FSC-certified
wood to produce handles for its
brushes and mop heads.
