One of a kind
We sit down with Fire Safety North content director Mark Sennett to learn why the event is a must
attend at EventCity in Manchester on 8-9 October 2019.
What makes Fire Safety North
different to other exhibitions in
the fire sector?
Fire Safety North is the biggest event of
its kind in the North of England and is
dedicated to supporting fire safety
professionals to help them achieve and
maintain the very highest standards of
fire safety management. Much like its
sister exhibition - The Fire Safety Event
at NEC Birmingham - it will offer an
unparalleled line-up of speakers and
free educational content. All of the
seminars offer CPD hours for attendees
so this is the perfect reason for delegates
to justify leaving the office to further
their career development and learn
about best practice and key issues that
impact their workplace.
There have been a lot of key
developments in the fire sector of the
last 12 months, including the
government publishing the findings of
Judith Hackitt’s independent review of
the building regulations and fire safety
and the current public consultation of
the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety)
Order 2005, which is the main
legislation for fire safety in the United
Kingdom. Fire Safety North will offer
access to keynote speakers who have
been directly involved in these reviews,
which means delegates can ask
questions and learn key information
from people that have directly
influenced changes to these regulations.
For example, the Fire Sector Federation
have made submissions to the
government for both reviews and its
vice president Dennis Davis will deliver
a keynote address on day one that will
look at the key learnings that can be
taken away in the wake of the Grenfell
Tower Tragedy and the independent
review of the building regulations.
Lawyer Warren Spencer has
prosecuted more cases under the Fire
Safety Order than any other legal
professional in the UK, having overseen
more than 150 prosecutions. He will be
delivering a mock trial on day one that
is based on an actual case that he
prosecuted. Delegates will be the jury
and Fire Safety North is the only event
in the sector that offers this kind of
interactive session.
What other key content is on offer
at Fire Safety North?
We have 30+ hours of CPD content on
offer and some of the highlights include
BAFE chief executive Stephen Adams
explaining the serious consequences of
not having a competent person carrying
out fire safety work.
Other key sessions include how
protecting tall buildings and safe
evacuation policies, importance of
suitable passive fire protection and
cladding – both of these topics couldn’t
be more in prevalent in the wake of the
Grenfell Tower fire. There’s also
seminars on assessing your fire safety
risk and liability and how to ensure
your building is compliant with fire
safety laws.
Are any key industry associations
supporting Fire Safety North?
Yes we have a great number of
associations exhibiting and supporting
Fire Safety North. These include the Fire
Protection Association, Institute of Fire
Safety Managers, Institution of Fire
Engineers, National Association of
Healthcare Fire Officers and the
Independent Fire Engineering &
Distributors Association. Visitors will be
able to gain advice and best practice
from experts on the association’s
exhibition stands and also learn
about membership benefits and
training opportunities.
What are the key reasons
delegates should attend Fire
Safety North?
Fire Safety North will be held at
EventCity in Manchester for the third
consecutive year. The venue is so easy to
get to and offers free parking for all. I’ve
explained why the content line-up is not
to be missed but it’s also worth noting
that the event is co-located with Health
& Safety North so your entry badge will
get you access to both exhibitions and
the theatres at both events.
There are more than 150 exhibitors
showcasing the latest products, services
and training courses that are essential
for keeping people and buildings safe.
There’s also great networking
opportunities on offer with the Institute
of Fire Safety Managers conducting two
seminars and hosting its AGM at the
event. So, this is the perfect
opportunity for people to network,
learn and procure.
Fire Safety North is free to attend,
offers free parking and is one of the
most easily accessible venues in the UK.
With the content, products and
networking on offer it’s impossible not
to justify attending.
