Shopping mall installs
suppression solution
Falk Ursinus, country manager
Germany, Chubb Fire & Security,
explains how the retail sector can
benefit from bespoke, intelligent fire
solutions.
Chubb, a service provider of fire
safety and security solutions, works
with large retail chains across Europe,
protecting customers and premises
with essential systems, equipment and
services. Its network of more than 20
monitoring centres worldwide provide
dedicated 24/7 alarm monitoring
services to monitor alarms and the
status of systems, and ensure rapid
response to any alarm activation.
The size and abundance of open
Smart surveying
software a hit at
care home
spaces at shopping mall CentrO in
Oberhausen, Germany, combined
with the value of the contents of
250+ shops, resulted in the need for
a tailored fire safety solution to
protect tenants and customers alike.
Chubb combined traditional
water sprinklers with a high-pressure
water mist system to protect the
open-top areas. At CentrO, wall
mounted nozzles can discharge high
pressure water mist into the entire
area. The use of these side wall
sprinkler nozzles is paramount to the
protection of the open-top areas.

residential care home.
Victoria Bateman said: “One area
we identified as being vital to our
residents feeling safe in their
environment is their use of our
Quantec addressable call system. The
ability to make a call to a carer for
help and be responded to in a timely
fashion is very important to them and
therefore very important to us too.
“Since Surveyor2 was installed,
we’ve been able to monitor and
analyse the use of our call system on
a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
We can print a variety of reports,
covering different time periods, so
we can see which of our 29 residents
are calling, at what times of the day
and, most importantly, our response
times to those calls.”

As part of any Fire Evacuation
Strategy, disabled, elderly, or less
mobile residents will need special
assistance during an emergency,
requiring them to have their own
bespoke Personal Emergency
Evacuation plan or PEEP, which
considers medical implications, ease
of movement, and required distance
to safe exit.
Designed specifically for the
purpose of ensuring safe, confident,
and fast transportation on stairs, a
tracked wheelchair stair climber
provides assurance in the event of an
emergency or lift breakdown
scenario.
This machine from Stanley
Handling enables a trained operative
to negotiate most staircases
smoothly, whilst a person travels in
their own wheelchair. Permanent
installation is not required as the
wheelchair is simply attached to the
tracked base with a design that
ensures the occupant is kept level
when descending stairs. Compatible
with electric chairs, wheelchairs with
tilting or movable backrests and
pushchairs, the lightweight frame
can also be quickly dismantled into
two pieces for easy transportation.
