Escape Air Vest’s “life jacket for
buildings” seen as essential PPE
responses for alarm episodes.
Companies procuring the EAV are
demonstrating a Duty of Care to
their operatives as the EAV provides
‘on demand’ breathable air that
enables them to escape safely.
As well as a torch and safety
eyewear, the EAV also carries a
nose clip, glow sticks and a
retractable lanyard that fastens
to other users, giving the
wearer the ability to warn
colleagues during an incident.
The EAV is both
rechargeable and easy to
operate for the wearer with no
valves to turn on and off.

I/O Controllers from PAC
deliver advanced security
AS BUILDINGS are gradually
reopened to occupants and users,
PAC has launched its Input/Output
(I/O) Controllers which allow end
users to extend the functionality of
their access control systems.
Designed in response to customer
feedback, PAC’s 520 Input Controller
and 530 Output Controller make it
easy and cost-effective to add-in new
security and building management
functions that provide additional
safety and reassurance for users.
Added functionality made
possible with the new I/O
Controllers includes lift control,
monitoring and alerts, the set-up of
remote or on-site alarms, the use of
sounders, the deployment of security
shutters and integration with CCTV
pre-sets. Further, the PAC I/O
Controllers provide actions based on
flexible event-driven rules which are
set up, configured and managed
within the PAC Access Central
management platform.
Lift control, for example, can be
used to give occupants access to only
those floors they’re permitted (and
safe) to use. Supported by the new
Lift Control menu within Access
Central, the accessible floors are
enabled within the lift buttons when
the occupant’s proximity PAC ID is
presented to the PAC reader at the
lift. The additional security this
solution provides is now becoming
more critical in multi-tenanted
commercial buildings.
“As their premises are gradually
reopened to users, building and
security managers are looking closely
at ways of keeping occupants safe
and compliant with new measures
that govern social distancing and
minimise unnecessary contact,”
explained Pete England, global
product manager at PAC. “The I/O
Controllers make it simple to add-in
new event-based functions that
automate key processes and render a
building safe for its end users.”
The launch comes on the back of
the recent arrival of the new PAC
512 DC and DCi Access Controllers
and Access Central management
platform. The new PAC 520 Input
Controller and PAC 530 Output
Controller are certified to the latest
standards and supplied in a number
of form factors for project flexibility.

SALTO Systems attains Enhanced
Level IoT Kitemark from BSI
SALTO SYSTEMS, the manufacturer
of electronic access control solutions,
has become the first company to
achieve the British Standards
Institution (BSI) Enhanced Level
Internet of Things (IoT) Kitemark
for access control systems
The IoT is typically a network of
smart devices and systems that can
be connected, enabling data to be
exchanged to provide services,
efficiency and innovation. Its
technology can positively enhance
lives and businesses, but the
complexity of the IoT also means
that those of criminal intent may
attempt to use it to steal data, hack
cameras or enter buildings.
The Department for Digital,
Culture, Media and Sport has
assessed the growing threat and
created a Code of Practice for IoT
security in collaboration with the
National Cyber Security Centre and
experts from academia and industry.
The BSI has been part of this
collaborative work to give clarity on
Best Practice for IoT security,
subsequently developing a scheme to
assess IoT/connected devices.
The scheme determines whether a
product has the appropriate security
controls for its intended use and is
suitably supported throughout its
intended life. This cyber/physical
security scheme forms the security
element of the BSI Kitemark for
IoT/connected products.
The Enhanced Level IoT Kitemark
demonstrates that a connected
product has a higher level of security
controls in place than the market
standard for its type and is generally
suitable for higher value or risk
applications. Assessment to this level
involves exacting analysis.
