Disruption isn’t uncommon in warehousing. For
all that eCommerce has given in terms of
innovative warehousing and ways of handling, it
took what it needed from the dismantled parts of old
business models. Remember HMV anyone?
Covid-19 has given a further kick to the pendulum
swing of change. The momentum was already drawing
inexorably away from the High Street and towards
online and it’s now gaining pace.
It isn’t the only megatrend impacted by Covid-19. It
has also accelerated the existing trend towards near-shoring.
But while the backlash against globalisation
has already started and the warehouse is feeling the
