Security Officer Services Apprenticeship
approved for Scotland launch
SKILLS FOR Security will be launching a
Security Officer Services Apprenticeship
imminently in Scotland with the training itself
delivered by the Security Industry Training
Organisation. This landmark apprenticeship
provides security officers with the most up-to-date
training to develop the skills and expertise
needed for the role of a modern and
professional security officer.
The apprenticeship will cover First Aid,
Health and Safety and the Security Industry
Authority licences (ie those for the public space
surveillance, door supervisor and security
officer roles) followed by an opportunity to
specialise in each of those areas.
Each of the specialisms will cover the
following requirements:
• Assessing and controlling risks
• Recognising the security needs of
stakeholders
• Identifying and assessing threats
• Ensuring compliance with regulations and
providing advice
• Ensuring the security of communications
and compliance with the General Data
Protection Regulation
• Conflict management
• Using communication effectively while also
presenting a professional image
• Developing interpersonal skills accustomed
to security operations
David Scott, managing director at Skills for
Security, commented: “This is excellent news
for our sector. After many years of
development and consultation, we’ve finally
received full approval for the Scottish Security
Officer Services Apprenticeship. It has taken
time and the efforts of many people to see this
over the line, but we’re extremely pleased to
witness the start of our first cohorts of learners
being enrolled imminently throughout the
whole of Scotland.”
